City Pulse

Welcome to Logan City Council’s Economic Development City Pulse.

Logan City Council understands the importance of accurate and up to date land use, development, and building activity data. Council has therefore invested in a dedicated Research and Monitoring Unit being established in the Economic Development and Strategy Branch, with a core function of monitoring growth and key indicators of growth across the City.

City Pulse contains the following information:

City Snapshot

City snapshot provides a census of the land use / activity occurring on every property located within Logan Local Government Area as at June 2019. The snapshot is presented in two broad categories being residential and non-residental. For properties with a residential land use / activity the number of dwellings is recorded or the number of bedrooms for specific residential uses such as care facilities. For properties with a non-residential land / use activity the Gross Floor Area (GFA) is recorded. If a property had both a residential and non-residential land use / activity all of these were recorded.

Note: Land Use / Activity is based on what is actually occurring on the property as at June 2020. Land use / activity is not Logan Planning Scheme (2015) zoning.

Retirement Dwellings*

The South East Queensland Regional Plan 2017 (ShapingSEQ), states that the City of Logan is required to accommodate an additional 89,900 residential dwellings from 2016 to 2041. By June 2020, 122,763 residential dwellings were recorded in Logan with a growth of 13,993 dwellings from 2016. Based on these updated figures, Logan is required to now facilitate an additional 75,907 residential dwellings by 2041.

  4. Care facilities Include residential care facilities such as nursing homes and community residence and are further defined as facilities with shared communal facilities such as common areas, kitchens etc. A care facility is not a separate dwelling.  The count for this housing type is the number of bedrooms and not dwellings.
  5. Non-private institutions include detention facilities and boarding homes. The count for this housing type is the number of bedrooms and not dwellings.

  • Showroom and bulk foods: This use includes large scale retailers such as retail warehouses, outdoor sales yards, showrooms etc.
  • Office: This use includes the provision of professional services and discharge of professional duties such as GP/doctors, office, vets etc.
  • Education: This use provides educational services such as child care centres, schools, universities, TAFE etc.
  • Health: This use provides general and emergency medical care such as hospitals and health care services etc.
  • Community other: This use provides services to the community such as community halls, emergency service stations, church etc.
  • Sport, Tourism & Recreation: This use provides recreation services such as gyms, galleries, tourist attractions, sporting facilities etc.

Development Approvals

Development Approvals represent the City of Logan’s potential development pipeline for both residential and non-residential land uses. It is of note that the figures presented on this page do not include development approved by Economic Development Queensland in the Priority Development Areas of Yarrabilba and Greater Flagstone.

The ‘More Information’ link provides development approval data in time series format from 2010 through to June 2020. Future releases will include time series data over a ten year period.
