Logan scores with sporting events
Events in the City of Logan make an important contribution to the overall economy, attributing approximately 160,000 visitors to the city per year.
In 2017, there were:
- 213 tourism events in the City of Logan
- 316 tourism event days
- 159,883 event visitors
- $24.12 million in visitor expenditure from events which contributed to Gross Regional Product (GRP) and created 213 jobs (both directly and indirectly)
Sporting participants and spectators make up 75% of all event visitors to the City of Logan. Recent sporting events include the Indoor Netball Association Junior Nationals, Softball QLD Masters championships, and Australian Supercross.
Events provide additional benefits through marketing and raising the profile of the destination, as well as becoming a trigger for potential repeat visitation. There are also community and social benefits that events can generate.
The City of Logan is well placed to host a range of sporting and cultural events, with venues such as Logan Metro Sports & Events Centre, Meakin Park and Mt Warren Sports Centre. Planned upgrades to sporting grounds across Logan will also help to attract larger and more diverse events.
While only 29 percent of visitors stay overnight in the City of Logan, their spend contributes more than half of the $24.4m contribution to the regional economy.
Logan City Council is working on actively developing our events (sporting and cultural) sector and attracting multi day events to continue to build on this economic contribution to our city.
