Trade Missions

The Logan Office of Economic Development facilitates international trade missions to promote investment in Logan City and export opportunities for local businesses.

The team is also informed of trade missions being undertaken by the State Government and industry partners where opportunities may exist for local businesses to take part. The Logan Office of Economic Development has coordinated recent trade missions to China, Korea, Malaysia and North America.

Our services provide opportunities for your business to expand in international markets by facilitating a greater depth of engagement and generating opportunities for business growth for participating organisations.

One of the local businesses that participated in activities throughout the year provided the following assessment of outcomes achieved as a result of participating in one of the trade missions:

  • Developed a greater understanding of the China market;
  • Contact established with Austrade Shanghai;
  • Requests for further information in regards to investment possibilities;
  • Reaffirmed existing relationships with business partners; and
  • New business partner established.

There are also a number of opportunities to build international networks from within Australia. Our office can facilitate introductions with foreign government representatives and Australian Trade Commissioners based overseas. In 2013 alone, representatives from local businesses were able to meet with Commissioners for Canada, China, Korea and Malaysia.

The Logan Office of Economic Development can also help facilitate networking with government departments and agencies which offer export assistance.

The team coordinates a database of local businesses interested in taking part in international trade delegations or meeting with visiting international delegations.

Case study

“I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to all the people from the Logan City Economic Development department over the past year for all your support, advice and guidance.

It has been of particular importance when hosting foreign trade and investment delegations, in particular from China, as it is very culturally important to have government to government, or council to council rapport established between parties.

Your office has also been very helpful in supporting our offshore activities, and we look forward to working with you closely in the future.” Paul Warfield, Registrar, Hills Educational Foundation.
